Best Camping Chairs of 2018

Let’s face it, Camping chairs have made a huge change over the years. The cheap, discounted chairs we used to find outside of a big retailer franchise is a thing of the past. Camping chairs have made a big leap in terms of comfort, durability and design. The use of the word “camping” is a bit problematic as you will see that chairs on this list are suitable for a specific category like: Camping, backpacking or everyday use. Whether you are on a deep jungle hike or barbecuing at the beach, you will find a match from our list of best camping chairs for 2018.

Weight: 13 lb.
Pros: Well made design and padded comfort.

The ALPS Mountaineering King Kong holds true to its name by being super strong and durable. A very sturdy steel made frame will most likely guarantee longevity (As long as the chair is not abused). Also, the chair has a great comfort rating due to the fact its probably the most padded chair on the list. When thinking about buying this chair you should think what is a priority: a super comfortable chair but burly or a more portable chair which is less comfortable and probably cheaper.

Its heavy but again its also very durable. So if you are planning a car camping trip or an outdoor event than the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong is a very suitable choice.

Category: Camping/everyday
Dimensions: 24 x 37 x 40.5 in.
Weight: 9 lb. 14 oz.
Pros: One of the best sellers among camping chairs with an amazing price.
Cons: None that deserve to be written at this attractive price tag.

The Coleman Over-sized Quad Chair has it all. It combines a nice design along with a padded back and seat that provides all that’s expected in terms of comfort and support. The built-in cooler does a terrific job of cooling your beer while barbecuing or just lounging at your camp site. Take into account that adding an ice pack will decrease the 4 beer can storage into a 3, but hey a cold one is always better right?  Side pockets work well and store your essentials, books and snacks. The fact that these chairs are over-sized makes them very suitable for bigger people and the adjustable arm heights helps a lot.

Materials are not top notch but exactly what you should expect at this attractive price tag.

It’s superb design and materials make it ultra light and very portable and compact. Easily attached to to a backpack or will fit inside it. The surprising weight that Helinox managed to achieve does not hurt the sturdiness of its aluminum design. In terms of comfort it does a decent job, as not all would take to the upright sitting position.

The price is a bit expensive although for those who wish to take a chair to a backpacking trip, the Helinox Chair Zero is a good choice. Although not as comfy as other chairs, its other traits earn it a place in our list of best camping chairs.

Category: Camping/everyday
Dimensions: 26 x 35.5 x 37 in.
Weight: 9 lb. 8 oz.
Pros: Good value for money.
Cons: Its height can cause some instability.

The Kijaro Dual Lock Chair will sit you comfortably due to its padded seat and headrest. The dual lock technology makes sure the 300-pound capacity chair locks in the open position for maximum seat and back support. The quality of the materials is surprisingly good and chair is sturdy. If you gout car camping or to watch sporting events, the width of the Dual Lock will make you feel right at home. Overall this is a strong competitor as the value for money is very good.

The ground-to-seat height of 20″ can give off a sense of instability for the shorter people. Taller adults will actually enjoy this fact.

Weight: 3 lb. 14 oz.
Pros: Light and good for budget campers.
Cons: Lesser build quality.

The main aspect to mention about the Coleman Broadband Mesh Quad Camping Chair is its price. When budgeted like that you know you can expect what you paid for. dimensions are quite right and the overall feel is not bad. The mesh made back works well it warmer weather and the chair is pretty light to carry. The arm rest cup holder is a nice added touch and the chair is easy to store and pack.

Its tough to argue with that price tag and that’s the main reason its on our list of best camping chairs. When purchasing this chair there is no need to complain about lesser build quality.

The Kelty Low Loveseat is the only 2 person chair to make our list of best camping chairs. Padded, comfortable and build with good quality materials, this Kelty is a good purchase. The arm rests are adjustable and the cup holders are insulated. The back can be reclined and to our taste is in the perfect position. The Low Loveseat is very durable and will sustain many trips. Ideal fro music festivals, camping seats or backyard barbecues.

As stated above the little bar at the middle of the seat might cause some annoyances with some but we found it passable.

The only low slung chair in our list of best camping chairs is the ALPS Mountaineering Rendezvous. Build materials are exceptionally good which makes the chair a bit heavier than it should. The use of mesh at the back and seat is good for ventilation.

Perfect for beach lovers or music concerts, less suitable for camping sites.

Trekology YIZI GO

Trekology YIZI GO Camping Chair
Trekology YIZI GO Camping Chair

Category: Camping/everyday
Dimensions: 14 x 27 x 24 in.
Weight: 2 lb.
Pros: Light, adjustable and good quality.
Cons: Weight limit.

The underdog among our list of best camping chairs is the Trekology YIZI GO. With an aluminum alloy frame and 600D engineering grade nylon fabric, the YIZI GO is a great chair. Extremely light weight and highly adjustable while the mesh on both sides of the chair allow for great ventilation. The main frame is constructed of a one piece shock corded pole that is easily setup and packed, also less parts means less parts to lose. A sand cover (Sold separately) is a great way to make the chair suitable for sandy terrains by preventing the chair from sinking.

Trekology claims the weight limit is at 300lbs, but that should be taken with a grain of salt. The chair is indeed sturdy and the aluminum body is strong but the connectors seem to struggle with each increasing weight. All and all a great chair to own at an attractive price.

WildHorn Terralite Portable Camp

WildHorn Terralite Portable Camping Chair
WildHorn Terralite Portable Camping Chair

Category: Camping/everyday
Dimensions: 17 x 21 x 28 in.
Weight: 2 lb.
Pros: Lightweight materials and quite comfortable.
Cons: Wide mesh use can lead to tears.

In total, the WildHorn Terralite Portable is pretty similar to the YIZI GO above. Both are extremely light weight and compact and offer the same comfort level. The main difference is that it seems that WildHorn is a bit less sturdy. Slightly higher than the YIZI GO, taller people will find it more comfy.

Extensive use of mesh does offer better ventilation than the YIZI GO but increases the likelihood of tears.

ENO – AIRPOD Hanging Chair

ENO - AIRPOD Hanging Chair
ENO – AIRPOD Hanging Chair

Category: Camping/everyday
Dimensions: 60 x 30.5 x 30.5 in.
Weight: 2.3 lb.
Pros: Very comfortable.
Cons: Limited as to where can be setup.

ENO – Eagles Nest Outfitters has designed a fun alternative to our list of best camping chairs. A teardrop design will make you feel like you’re floating on air. A cushioned headrest and an adjustable footrest makes for a very fun and comfortable experience. The nylon fabric is quite breathable making it less of a problem in warmer weather. We love the hammock like comfort the AIRPOD provides.

Only downside to this is the obvious set up process. If your destination doesn’t guarantee a strong anchor attachment point you’ll need to leave it in your trunk.
